The latest updates to Lokimaps.

  1. 5.3.0

    A new way to navigate, with iCloud bookmark sync

    Preview and follow your journey with clearer guidance, keep your saved places across devices, and recover recently deleted items.

    • Preview your destination and distance before setting off. Navigate directly to a place, follow a route from Route Planner, or follow a saved route or track.
    • See your remaining distance as you move. When you follow a route, the travelled section fades, and an alert shows how far you are from the path if you leave it.
    • Reverse direction, edit your route, or plan a new journey from your current location without losing sight of your progress.

    Guidance on the Lock Screen

    • A Live Activity shows the next stretch of your route on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island, including your position and remaining distance. Direct navigation shows a direction indicator instead.
    • Navigation can continue updating while your screen is locked or you use another app. You can turn background updates off in Settings.

    Your bookmarks on every device

    • Turn on optional Sync with iCloud under Settings > Bookmarks to keep bookmarks, folders, saved routes, and completed tracks up to date across devices using the same Apple Account. No PRO subscription is required.
    • Deleted bookmarks, routes, and tracks can now be restored from Recently Deleted for 30 days. Find it in the Bookmarks actions menu.

    Spain's topographic map, Spanish support and faster bookmarks

    Explore Spain with its official topographic map, use the app in Spanish, and manage large bookmark collections more smoothly.

    Spain joins Lokimaps

    • Explore Spain with the official topographic map from Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN), including detailed terrain, contour lines, trails, roads, water features, buildings, and place names.
    • The Lokimaps app is now available in Spanish.

    More ways to work with coordinates and bookmarks

    • Finnish YKJ coordinates can now be used both as the displayed coordinate format and in coordinate searches.
    • Nearby bookmark pins can now be grouped to keep the map readable. Select a group to zoom in or choose a bookmark directly, and control grouping from Settings.

    Faster and more reliable

    • Large collections of bookmarks, routes, and tracks now load and appear on the map faster.
    • Fixed cases where bookmark updates were not reflected on the map and routes did not appear after being made visible.
    • Documentation now opens in the language selected in the app.

    Expanded guidance is now available directly in the app, alongside a completely new icon that makes Lokimaps instantly recognizable.

    • Help and documentation have been expanded and are now available directly from Lokimaps. Whether you are choosing maps, planning a route or preparing for offline use, practical guidance is only a tap away.

    • The new icon brings together a route, contour lines and water in one unmistakable mark. Look for it on your Home Screen the next time you open Lokimaps.

    More control over your screen

    • You can now allow the screen to turn off while using the map, useful when you want to conserve battery and do not need the display to remain awake.

    Polished throughout

    • Improved translations and general reliability make Lokimaps clearer and more dependable wherever your route takes you.

    Route planning, measuring and smoother map tools

    Ruler is now Route Planner, new Measure Tool, and map tools feel faster and clearer.

    New in this update

    • Ruler is now Route Planner. Plan routes directly on the map with waypoints, edit them later, save them to bookmarks, and continue editing saved routes whenever you need.
    • With Lokimaps PRO, Route Planner can create walking, cycling, and car routes between waypoints.
    • New Measure Tool: touch and hold the map with two fingers to see distance and angle between points. Supports degrees, NATO mils (6400) and Finnish piiru (6000).
    • Added a setting to allow or disable 3D map view.
    • Offline downloads are now available without PRO for supported maps.
    • Liquid Glass support has been improved for map widgets and toolbars.
    • Map pins and route details now open faster and feel more responsive.
    • Oma riista areas now have a status widget that shows at a glance whether you are inside or outside the area.
    • Oma riista area visuals are clearer, making it easier to see whether you are within the area.
    • Several route planning, map overlay, and settings issues have been fixed.

    Topo maps - Finland is now Lokimaps

    A new name for the same outdoor navigation app, with clearer map choices and one PRO subscription for extra maps and layers.

    New in this update

    • Topo maps - Finland has a new name: Lokimaps.
    • A clearer map structure: choose one included base map for Finland, Sweden or Norway.
    • Lokimaps PRO now unlocks all other maps, layers and PRO features with one subscription.

    Multi-map mode and map layer improvements

    Show Nordic topo maps together, get more detail in Sweden, and use Finnish property borders as a separate layer.

    New in this update

    • Multi-map mode: show several maps at the same time. This is especially useful in Nordic border regions, where Finland, Sweden, and Norway topo maps can now be used together.
    • The Sweden base map is more detailed, with two additional supported zoom levels.
    • Finnish property borders are now a separate layer, so they can be used on top of any map instead of only the Finnish topo map.

    A smaller update with more coordinate formats, track-recording Live Activities and bookmark sorting.

    Explore old Finnish map layers from 1863 to 2020 on top of the current map.

    Historic maps for Finland are now available in the app.

    More than 30,000 historic maps from 1863-2020 can be shown on top of the current map. Pick a year, adjust opacity, and compare how the landscape has changed right on the map.

    Maastokartta rebuilt

    The familiar maps and tools are still here, with a clearer and faster experience on modern devices.

    Maastokartta is back, this time properly rebuilt.

    This update took a while, and we're sorry for the wait. The app has been rebuilt in large part: the familiar maps and tools are still here, but the experience is now clearer and faster on modern devices.

    A few visible changes

    • Offline map downloads now have their own screen, making progress easier to follow.
    • Completely rebuilt GPX import and export.
    • Track, navigation, and ruler distances now follow your unit settings.
    • Search has been reworked with autocomplete and recent searches.
    • The Details button for tracks now opens the correct detail view.
    • New feature: location sharing between trip companions, protected with end-to-end encryption.
