Location sharing lets a group of trusted companions see one another on the Lokimaps map. New access requires Lokimaps PRO, location permission, and a network connection. People who already had location-sharing groups before it became a PRO feature retain access.

Create a groupCreate a group

  1. Open Location sharing from the bottom toolbar.
  2. Select Add group .
  3. Enter a group name. The first time, also enter the first name or nickname that other group members should see.
  4. Save the group and open its details.
  5. Select Share invitation link and send the link to trusted participants.

An invitation link contains the information needed to join the group. Treat it as private and share it only with people you want in the group.

Join from an invitationJoin from an invitation

  1. Open the invitation link on an iPhone or iPad with Lokimaps installed.
  2. Confirm the group name shown by Lokimaps.
  3. Enter your name if the app asks for it.
  4. Select Join group.

Your name is shown only to members of the location-sharing groups you join. You can change it later from the Location sharing Actions menu.

Control what is sharedControl what is shared

Each group has its own enabled switch. When a group is disabled, your location is not shared with that group and its other members are hidden from your map.

When enabled, your location is shared while Lokimaps is in use. It is shared in the background only while track recording is enabled. Location data is end-to-end encrypted, so the Lokimaps service cannot read the shared positions.

View and manage the groupView and manage the group

  1. Open a group to see its members and the time of their latest available location.
  2. Select another member to show that person on the map.
  3. Share the invitation link again when another trusted participant needs it.
  4. Open the group's Actions menu to choose Change group name .
  5. Swipe another member or use the member's context menu to choose Remove member when needed.
  6. Turn the group off temporarily, or choose Leave group to remove it from your list.

If a group is disabled, selecting another member automatically enables the group and resumes sharing your own location with that group.

Location sharing depends on each member's device, connection, permissions, and recent location updates. A stale or missing position should not be treated as proof of where someone is.
