Route Planner builds a route from waypoints you place on the map. Direct mode connects them with straight lines. With PRO and a network connection, walking, cycling, and car modes can calculate a route along trails and roads.

Create a routeCreate a route

  1. Open Route Planner from the bottom toolbar.
  2. Choose a routing mode: Direct , Walking , Cycling , or Car . Start with Direct if you want complete manual control or are preparing for offline use.
  3. Tap the map or the centre crosshair to add the first waypoint, then continue tapping to extend the route.
  4. Drag a waypoint to refine its position. Touch and hold an existing route segment to insert a waypoint on that segment.
  5. Use the waypoint list to focus or delete a point. Each row shows the distance from the previous waypoint and the total distance from the start when those values are available.
  6. Use Undo and Redo when you need to reverse an edit.
  7. Open the Actions menu and choose Save to bookmarks . Enter a route name, choose a folder under Bookmarks, and decide whether it should remain visible on the map.

The planner shows the route distance and, with at least three waypoints, the enclosed area. Your current unsaved planner draft is retained when the planner or app is closed. Use Clear route from the Actions menu when you want to remove every waypoint from that draft.

Understand routing modesUnderstand routing modes

DirectDirect

Direct mode draws a straight line between consecutive waypoints. It does not check paths, roads, access restrictions, terrain, or hazards. Direct routing remains available without PRO and does not require the online routing service.

Walking, cycling, and carWalking, cycling, and car

These modes are available with Lokimaps PRO and a network connection. They use an online service to calculate geometry between waypoints. A calculated route is a planning aid, so compare it with current maps, signs, closures, conditions, and local rules.

You can also change the routing mode for an individual segment from the destination waypoint's actions. Editing a segment's routing mode requires PRO, including when the route was created earlier.

Edit a Route Planner routeEdit a Route Planner route

Routes originally saved from Route Planner keep the planning information needed for later editing. Imported GPX routes and older saved routes may not have it.

  1. Open Bookmarks from the bottom toolbar.
  2. Select a route originally saved from Route Planner.
  3. Choose Edit in Route Planner when that action is available.
  4. Add, move, or remove waypoints as needed.
  5. Select Save to update the route, or Save as new route to keep the original.

Route Planner does not provide turn-by-turn guidance. Navigation is a separate straight-line tool for following one destination.
