The main map has two kinds of controls. The small controls drawn over the map handle maps, zoom, search, compass, scale, speed, recording, navigation status, and other context-dependent information. The bottom toolbar opens the main tools and saved content. All controls and settings on this page are available without PRO.

Move, zoom, rotate, and tilt the mapMove, zoom, rotate, and tilt the map

  • Drag with one finger to pan.
  • Pinch or use zoom in and zoom out to zoom.
  • Rotate with two fingers when Allow map rotation is enabled under Settings , General.
  • Drag up or down with two fingers to change the 3D pitch when Allow 3D map view is enabled. Turning that setting off returns the camera to a flat view.
  • The compass shows the map heading after the map has been rotated. Select it to return north to the top.
  • The scale updates automatically for the current zoom level.

The centre crosshair marks the point at the centre of the map. Pointer uses this point, and Route Planner can use it to add a waypoint while the planner is open.

Follow your position with LocateFollow your position with Locate

Select Locate in the bottom toolbar to cycle through three tracking modes:

  1. Follow your position.
  2. Follow your position and heading.
  3. Stop following so the map can remain where you move it.

Inspect a map point with PointerInspect a map point with Pointer

Move the map until the required point is under the centre crosshair , then select Pointer in the bottom toolbar. You can also tap the crosshair directly. When no active crosshair-based tool handles the tap, Lokimaps places the pointer at the map centre.

Open the pointer details to:

  • Copy the coordinate in the selected coordinate system
  • See straight-line distance and direction from your current position
  • Request an estimated elevation and address through online services
  • Start straight-line Navigation
  • Save the point as a bookmark

Set and use a base campSet and use a base camp

  1. Tap your blue current-location marker.
  2. Select Set as base camp.
  3. Lokimaps places a blue star marker at that position and keeps it after the app is reopened.
  4. Tap the base-camp marker to choose Navigate or Delete.

Setting a new base camp replaces the previous base-camp position. You can also select Copy coordinates after tapping your current-location marker.

Understand the live trailUnderstand the live trail

Lokimaps draws a live trail behind your position as usable location updates arrive. This temporary trail helps you see where you have just moved, but it is not a saved track and is not restored after the app is restarted.

Under Settings , Trail, choose its colour and width or select Clear trail. To create a named, persistent item with timing and movement statistics, use Track recording.

General settingsGeneral settings

Open Settings from the bottom toolbar. Under General you can change:

  • Allow map rotation, which enables or disables the two-finger rotation gesture
  • Allow 3D map view, which enables or disables map pitch
  • Show speed, which shows or hides the current-speed control on the map
  • Show Apple points of interest, which shows or hides Apple's place markers
  • Show track recording, which shows or hides the recording control without deleting or stopping an active recording
  • GPS accuracy, with Accurate, Balanced, and Battery saving modes

Accurate requests the best available accuracy and every movement update. Balanced requests approximately ten-metre accuracy and updates after about ten metres. Battery saving requests approximately 100-metre accuracy, filters updates to about 50 metres, and allows iOS to pause updates automatically. Actual results still depend on the device and conditions.

Units and line stylesUnits and line styles

Under Settings , Units, choose:

  • Coordinate system: WGS84 DD, DDM, or DMS, ETRS-TM35FIN, MGRS, UTM / ETRS89, SWEREF 99 TM, or ETRS-GK
  • Angle: Degrees, NATO mils (6400), or Finnish piiru (6000)
  • Speed, elevation, and distance units

The angle setting is used by Pointer and Measure Tool. Coordinate formatting is used by Pointer, copied coordinates, bookmarks, and other coordinate displays.

Under Line style, choose the default colour and width used by new track recordings and imported GPX routes and tracks. Route Planner uses the selected width while its active route is shown. A saved route or track can later be given its own line colour and width from its Bookmarks details.

About and support actionsAbout and support actions

The About section shows the app version and build. It also provides Send feedback, Write a review, Redeem code, Documentation, Support, Privacy Policy, and Terms of Use. Documentation opens the Lokimaps guides inside the app. The redeem action is for eligible App Store offer codes; it is not required for a normal subscription purchase.
