Offline downloads are available without PRO for supported maps that you already have access to. Not every map or layer can be downloaded, because availability depends on the map source and its technical capabilities.
Download an areaDownload an area
- While online, open Maps from the map controls and make sure the map you need is selected.
- Open the Actions menu beside that map and choose Download area . If the action is missing, area downloads are not supported for that map.
- Pan and zoom the download view until the fixed selection frame covers your trip area. The current zoom becomes the least detailed downloaded zoom, and Lokimaps downloads through zoom level 16.
- Check the estimated size shown in the download button.
- Select Download and keep Lokimaps open until it reports that the download has finished.
Lokimaps warns before downloading an estimate over 200 MB and does not start an estimate over 1 GB. Split a large trip into several smaller areas when needed. Previously downloaded regions are outlined in green in the download view.
Check your offline preparationCheck your offline preparation
- Open the downloaded map and move around the planned area at the zoom levels you expect to use.
- Temporarily disable Wi-Fi and mobile data.
- Confirm that the map remains visible in the required area.
- Save important destinations under Bookmarks and import any required GPX files before leaving coverage.
Place search, walking, cycling and car routing, location sharing, and other online services still require a network connection. Direct mode in Route Planner draws straight lines without requesting an online route.
Manage downloaded map dataManage downloaded map data
- Open Maps from the map controls and open the Actions menu beside the map.
- Choose Download settings .
- Review Cache size , enable Update maps automatically if wanted, or select Clear cache to reclaim storage. Automatic updates replace cached map tiles more than one month old when the device has an internet connection.
Clearing a map's cache removes its stored tiles and downloaded-area records. Download the required areas again before your next offline trip.
Custom WMS, WMTS, and WFS sources do not offer Download area, even when recently viewed imagery remains in a cache. For a complete comparison, see Built-in maps and layers. For selecting another map or overlay, see Maps and layers.
