Bookmarks keeps your saved map locations, planned routes, recorded tracks, imported GPX items, and folders together. The app calls a saved map location a bookmark.

Save a point from the mapSave a point from the map

  1. Move the map until the centre crosshair is over the location.
  2. Open Pointer and open the point details.
  3. Select Save as bookmark .
  4. Enter a name, choose a destination folder, and decide whether to show the bookmark on the map.
  5. Select Save.

You can also save a place directly from a Search result.

Find and organise itemsFind and organise items

  1. Open Bookmarks from the bottom toolbar.
  2. Use the search field to find a bookmark by name.
  3. Open the Actions menu and choose New folder to create a folder or subfolder.
  4. Select Edit to choose several items, then move or delete the selection.
  5. Use Sort By to order the current folder by name or creation date.

The visibility control beside an item changes whether that bookmark, route, track, or folder is shown on the map. Hiding an item does not delete it.

Open an item to see a map preview, available details, and the actions for its type:

  • A bookmark shows its coordinates, estimated elevation, and addition date. You can show it on the map, navigate to it, copy its coordinates, share it as GPX, rename or move it, choose a red, green, or blue marker, change visibility, or delete it.
  • A saved route shows its distance, enclosed area, and creation date. You can follow it, show it on the map, share it as GPX, rename or move it, change its line colour or width, change visibility, or delete it. Routes saved by Route Planner also offer Edit in Route Planner .
  • A recorded track shows distance, moving time, enclosed area, speed, time, and elevation statistics when available. You can follow it or use the same map, GPX, organisation, visibility, line-style, and deletion actions as a route.
  • A folder can be renamed, shown or hidden as a group, shared as one GPX file, or deleted. To move a folder, select Edit in its parent folder, select the folder, and choose Move. The visibility of an item inside a hidden folder is retained for when the folder is shown again.

Deleting a folder requires confirmation. Deleting an individual bookmark, route, or track moves it directly to Recently Deleted.

Deleting an item is different from hiding it. Deleting a folder also deletes every nested folder, bookmark, route, and track inside it. Bookmarks, routes, and tracks remain in Recently Deleted for 30 days, but folders cannot be restored. Export anything you want to keep before deleting a folder.

To follow a saved route or track, open the Actions menu in its details and select Follow route or Follow track . Review the journey, then select GO. The path is already fixed, so the preview does not show the travel-mode selector. Tracks with gaps offer a section picker; navigation follows only the selected section. See Navigation.

Sync bookmarks with iCloudSync bookmarks with iCloud

Sync with iCloud keeps your bookmarks up to date in Lokimaps on devices using the same Apple Account. Sync is optional and does not require a subscription.

To turn it on:

  1. Open Settings .
  2. Under Bookmarks, turn on Sync with iCloud.
  3. Review the confirmation, then select Turn On.

Bookmarks already on the device are combined with those already in iCloud for the current Apple Account. Each device must use the same Apple Account and have Sync with iCloud turned on.

When bookmark libraries are combined through iCloud, Lokimaps automatically combines matching saved items, including many copies previously transferred by GPX. Items must have the same type, name, and coordinates in the same folder structure. Routes must match point for point along the entire path; tracks must also have matching recording times and gaps. Folders with the same name under matching parent folders are combined.

Import dates and small differences caused by coordinate rounding do not prevent a match. Extra route-planning or recording details are retained when they can be combined safely. Items with different names, folder locations, colours, or other conflicting details remain separate. Uncertain matches also remain separate. Items in Recently Deleted and copies deliberately created with the GPX import option Keep duplicates as copies are excluded.

An offline device may still have a copy of an item that was combined on another device. If the copy is unchanged, it will not reappear when the device reconnects. If it was edited, Lokimaps can retain the edited version as a conflict copy instead of losing the changes. An unchanged copy cannot restore an item that has been deleted.

Privacy and securityPrivacy and security

Lokimaps stores synced bookmark data in private iCloud storage linked to your Apple Account. By default, this data is accessible only to you through your Apple Account. Sync does not publish your bookmarks or share them with other Lokimaps users. iCloud protects the data with Apple Account authentication and encryption.

An active track recording starts syncing after you finish the recording.

Map visibility is set separately on each device. A bookmark received from iCloud is visible on the map by default; received routes and tracks are hidden by default. The default destination folder, sorting, and active navigation also remain device-specific.

Using more than one deviceUsing more than one device

Lokimaps combines compatible changes made on devices using the same Apple Account. When changes cannot be combined safely, Lokimaps keeps both versions and adds “conflict copy” to one name. This can also happen when the same saved route is edited in Route Planner on more than one device. See Edit a Route Planner route.

Bookmarks remain available without a network connection. Changes sync after a connection becomes available. To check sync, open Bookmarks and scroll to the bottom of the library. The status appears below the final item. Follow the message shown there and select Try Again when available.

Turning sync off or changing accountsTurning sync off or changing accounts

Turning sync off does not delete anything from iCloud. Changes made while it is off are combined with iCloud the next time you turn it on.

Changing or signing out of your Apple Account turns sync off. After signing in, turn sync on again to combine the bookmarks on the device with those in iCloud for the current Apple Account. This may combine bookmarks previously used with different accounts, so check the confirmation before turning sync on.

Recently DeletedRecently Deleted

Open Bookmarks , open the Actions menu at the library root, then choose Recently Deleted . Tap Select, choose the bookmarks, routes, or tracks you want to recover, then tap Restore in the toolbar. You can also touch and hold an item and choose Restore . Tap Done to leave selection mode. Recently Deleted works on the device even when iCloud sync is off.

Restored items return to their original folder if it still exists; otherwise, they return to the library root. They start hidden on the map. Deleting a folder also deletes its contents, but only the contained items can be restored, not the folder or its nested folders.

The dates in Recently Deleted show when each item was deleted. After 30 days, items are permanently deleted and can no longer be restored. With iCloud sync enabled, this also applies across your synced devices. If sync is off at the time, iCloud is updated after you turn it on again.
