Track recording saves the path you travel as a track under Bookmarks. The map widget shows the current recording state and accumulated distance. On supported devices, a Live Activity also shows the recording or paused state and distance outside the app.
Start and finish a recordingStart and finish a recording
- Find Track recording on the map and tap Play .
- Keep Lokimaps running while you move. The recorded line and distance update as usable location readings arrive.
- Tap Pause when you want to stop adding points without finishing the track. Tap Play to continue as a new segment.
- Open Stop and choose Save when the trip is complete.
- Name the track, choose a folder under Bookmarks, decide whether to show it on the map, then select Save.
If the recording widget is hidden, open Settings , find General, and enable Show track recording. Track recording, its Live Activity, and all saved-track actions are available without PRO.
Record in the backgroundRecord in the background
For background recording, keep Location Services enabled and allow the location access requested by Lokimaps. iOS can limit background updates when permissions, battery state, or system settings restrict location use.
If Lokimaps is interrupted with an unfinished recording, the app attempts to restore that track when it opens again. Check the recording state before continuing your trip.
Balance accuracy and battery useBalance accuracy and battery use
- Open Settings and select GPS accuracy.
- Choose Accurate for the best map, navigation, and recording precision with higher battery use.
- Choose Balanced for a compromise between updates and battery life.
- Choose Battery saving for fewer updates, understanding that the displayed position and recorded track can be less precise.
Terrain, tree cover, buildings, device placement, and satellite visibility can all affect the result. Carry enough battery for the trip and do not treat a recorded line as a guarantee of your current position.
Open a saved track to see its map preview, distance, moving time, area, average and top speed, start and finish times, duration, and lowest and highest elevation when those values are available. The Actions menu can show it on the map, share it as GPX, rename or move it, change its line colour or width, hide it, or delete it.
To send the finished track to another app or device, choose Share GPX . See Import and export GPX for details. Track recording can also enable background updates for Location sharing.
