Preview your destination and path, then start navigation when you are ready to set off. A compact card on the map shows the remaining distance. When following a route, it also shows your destination name or an alert if you leave the route. Direct navigation keeps the destination name when your recent travel direction points towards it. Otherwise, a short directional cue replaces the name. Navigation ends when arrival is detected or you end it yourself.

Measure remains available for checking distances and bearings between map points. Route Planner prepares and edits paths before you follow them.

  1. Place the Pointer at the destination and open its details, or open a result from Search or a saved place in Bookmarks.
  2. Select Navigate here in the pointer details. For a bookmark, open Actions in its details and select Navigate here . For a search result, open its details and select Navigate.
  3. Review the destination and distance on the Ready to go? screen. The preview shows your location and the place name when available, or Destination on map for an unnamed point marked by the flag. The distance is labelled Along the route or In a straight line.
  4. For a single destination, choose Direct, Walking, Cycling, or Car from the travel-mode selector. Calculating walking, cycling, or car routes requires PRO and an internet connection. A spinner replaces the selected mode's icon while its route is being calculated.
  5. Select GO when ready.

Direct guidance shows the straight-line distance from your changing position to the destination. Its line moves with you. Choose your own way through the terrain; this mode does not calculate a road or trail route and does not issue off-route alerts when you walk around an obstacle.

The solid navigation line connects your current location to the destination and moves as your position updates. A thinner, lighter line with long dashes preserves the original start-to-destination direction underneath it. Both use the same navigation color and share the destination flag. Where the lines overlap, the solid live line takes priority. The dashed line is a reference, not a recorded track or a route you must follow. It stays visible on arrival until you dismiss the journey. Reversing navigation swaps the reference endpoints.

The in-app card uses recent GPS travel direction, not the phone's compass. When the destination is roughly ahead (within about 15 degrees), it shows the normal destination name. Otherwise, Destination to your left, Destination to your right, or Destination behind you appears in the same orange warning row used for off-route guidance.

Walking, cycling, and car directions create a fixed path to follow. The navigation card shows the remaining distance along the route. The travelled part fades while the remaining path stays highlighted.

Navigation provides path-following guidance without spoken turn instructions or automatic rerouting.

Follow a planned route, saved route, or trackFollow a planned route, saved route, or track

In Route Planner, prepare your path, open the Actions menu, and select Navigate to open the preview. Saving the route first is optional.

For a saved route or track, open its details in Bookmarks, open the Actions menu, and select Follow route or Follow track . Direct navigation and following existing routes or tracks do not require PRO. You can follow an existing path offline; calculating a new road or trail route needs a connection and PRO. Download the offline maps you need beforehand.

Review the direction and destination flag. Saved routes and tracks initially choose a direction using your position along the path; loops retain their recorded direction. Their path is already fixed, so the preview omits the travel-mode selector. Select Reverse direction in the preview to change direction, then GO.

Tracks with pauses or separate imported segments may contain gaps. For these tracks, the preview includes a Track section picker and initially suggests the section nearest your known position (or the first section if your position is unavailable). The selected section is highlighted, with the other sections shown in gray. Starting navigation follows only the selected section and finishes at its endpoint. Gaps and other sections are excluded from the remaining distance. Paused segments whose endpoints are within 10 metres are joined; larger gaps are never connected automatically. To follow another section afterwards, reopen the saved track and review that section. Reversing or editing navigation affects only the selected section, and the saved track stays intact.

The preview uses your position to choose a joining point on the route. When you are away from it, the preview reports the straight-line distance to the joining point. It does not calculate a route to that point. Planned multi-point routes and saved paths remain fixed paths even when they consist of straight segments.

Edit before startingEdit before starting

The preview lets you inspect and pan the map without adding or moving waypoints. Select Edit route to open the waypoint editor. The tip below the waypoint list explains that you can tap the map to add another waypoint. Your selected routing mode applies only to the next segment you add. To reroute an existing segment, choose a different routing mode from its destination waypoint's actions.

Use Undo and Redo beside Cancel at the top left to undo or restore an edit. Select Done at the top right to keep your edits and return to the preview, or Cancel to discard them. The distance and GO action appear in the final card after you finish editing.

Editing the navigation journey does not update the saved route or track. For recorded tracks and routes without saved planner waypoints, the editor initially shows only the start and destination as editable waypoints.

Open Navigation actions in the navigation card and select Show remaining path to fit your remaining path and position on screen.

If you leave a fixed route, the card shows both your distance from the route and the distance remaining along it. The off-route warning replaces the small navigation title, keeping the remaining distance prominent. An orange dashed connector points to the nearest matching point on the route. This is a straight line, not a calculated or verified route back. The remaining route distance excludes the connector. Normal guidance returns when you rejoin the path.

The card keeps the latest known distance and shows the position age or accuracy when needed. Waiting for location means there is no valid position yet. Automatic arrival and off-route alerts require a new, sufficiently accurate fix generated after navigation starts or the app resumes; an old cached position cannot trigger them. Navigation can continue while the screen is locked. The Live Activity retains the last distance and labels it Last known location if its updates become stale.

If Live Activities are allowed, the Lock Screen shows the remaining distance beside a sketch of the nearby path while you follow a route. The stronger line shows up to 200 metres ahead; the lighter line shows up to 50 metres of the route behind your current progress. The position marker shows your latest known location. A destination flag appears when the end of the route is within that window.

The sketch rotates so your direction of travel points up. When stationary or between GPS updates, it retains the last travel direction; without an available heading, north points up and the position marker becomes a dot. It updates with the GPS movement information available to the app, including your chosen GPS accuracy settings.

Off-route alerts remain visible beside the sketch. An orange dashed line connects your position to the route, helping you see where the path continues. The sketch shows only the route, without surrounding terrain or turn instructions.

Direct guidance to a destination uses the same layout, with a direction dial beside the remaining straight-line distance. Up represents your recent GPS direction of travel. The destination flag shows where the destination lies relative to that direction, and a curved arc and left/right angle indicate the correction. The highlighted zone at the top means the destination is roughly ahead (within about 15 degrees). A destination nearly behind you is labeled accordingly. This indicates direction only, not a walkable route.

The dial updates as you travel, not when you rotate your phone. Small GPS movements are filtered, and correction angles are rounded to avoid false precision. Before a travel direction is available, it shows Move to determine direction with a neutral position marker. Open the app for the current map and location details.

The expanded Dynamic Island also shows the sketch or direction dial. When updates are stale, the visual dims and keeps the last known guidance with the corresponding status label. The stale label reflects Live Activity updates, not the age of the GPS fix itself. Check the in-app card for location age and accuracy when needed.

Under Settings , Navigation, Continue in background is on by default. It keeps navigation progress, route alerts, and the Live Activity updated when you lock the screen or use another app, using your selected GPS accuracy mode.

Turn it off to pause navigation updates in the background and save battery. The Live Activity closes when Lokimaps moves to the background. Returning to Lokimaps resumes navigation updates and starts the Live Activity again. Your journey remains active throughout.

Track recording is independent: an active recording can still keep GPS running even with background navigation off. Navigation updates stay paused until you return to the app. Once you arrive or end navigation, it no longer keeps GPS active on its own.

Change or end navigationChange or end navigation

Open Navigation actions in the card:

  • Show remaining path fits the remaining path and your position on screen.
  • Reverse direction changes the destination to the original start. Route following uses the same path in reverse; direct guidance points back to the start.
  • Edit route opens the waypoint editor directly for the current journey. The active navigation path is temporarily hidden from the map, leaving only the editable path. Select Done to apply the edited route immediately and continue navigation, or Cancel to discard every edit and restore the unchanged active route.
  • Replan from my location previews a new journey from your current position to the same destination. The current navigation continues until you start and confirm the replacement.
  • End navigation ends an active journey after confirmation.

Automatic arrival requires a new location with an accuracy estimate of 30 metres or better near the destination; route following also checks that little route distance remains. Battery saving mode can delay arrival detection because it requests less accurate, less frequent positions. When arrival is detected, navigation completes automatically. Guidance and navigation updates stop, and navigation no longer keeps background GPS active. Track recording continues independently. The Live Activity ends with an Arrived display that stays on the Lock Screen for about five minutes before dismissal.

The compact Arrived card keeps your route available. Select Done beside the actions menu to dismiss it without confirmation. To return, open Navigation actions and select Follow route back . Direct guidance offers Return to start instead. This starts a new navigation session in the opposite direction.

If arrival was detected too early, open Navigation actions and select Continue navigation . Guidance resumes to the same destination. Automatic arrival stays disabled while you remain in the destination area, so navigation does not immediately end again. It becomes available again after a sufficiently accurate new location places you more than 75 metres from the destination. You can always end navigation yourself when you reach the exact point.

Active journeys resume when Lokimaps reopens. Completed journeys restore only the completion card, without restarting navigation or extending the Live Activity's dismissal time. Starting another journey replaces the completion card without asking to stop an ongoing session.
