Topo maps – Sweden and Topo maps – Norway are being retired and replaced by Lokimaps. This guide shows you how to move to Lokimaps and bring your bookmarks with you.

We have been making map apps for Finland, Sweden, and Norway for more than ten years. Bringing them together in one app lets us add more countries and maps, and every improvement we make now reaches everyone. Lokimaps is built on the same foundation as your current app, so it will feel familiar. It has all the maps and features you already use, and many more.

Switching is quick and costs nothing. Lokimaps is free to download, and transferring your bookmarks is free too. Without a subscription, you get your country's topographic map, offline downloads, bookmarks, track recording, and the core map and navigation tools.

You can keep using your old app for now, but we strongly recommend switching, because all new features will be released only in Lokimaps.

Your old app has a built-in guide that walks you through both steps.

  1. Open your old app on the iPhone or iPad where your bookmarks are saved.
  2. Open Settings and select the Switch to Lokimaps card at the top. If the card appears on the map, you can also select Switch now there.

If you do not see the card, update your old app from the App Store and try again.

Step 1: Get LokimapsStep 1: Get Lokimaps

  1. In the switching guide, select View in App Store under Get Lokimaps. The Lokimaps page in the App Store opens on top of your old app.
  2. Select Get. If you have downloaded Lokimaps before, you see a cloud button instead. Confirm with Face ID, Touch ID, or your Apple Account password if asked.
  3. When the download has finished, close the App Store page. You are back in the switching guide. Leave it open for the next step.
  4. Lokimaps does not open by itself. Go to your Home Screen and open Lokimaps.
  5. Follow the short setup. When asked to choose your included main map, choose Sweden or Norway to match your old app. This choice cannot be changed later.
  6. Setup also shows an offer for Lokimaps PRO. You do not need to subscribe. Continue past it, and redeem your thank-you gift afterwards (see below).

Already have Lokimaps? Update it from the App Store if an update is available, then bring your bookmarks across. If you have already completed setup, there is no need to do it again.

Step 2: Bring your bookmarksStep 2: Bring your bookmarks

This step copies your saved places, routes, and recorded tracks into Lokimaps, together with the folders they are in. Nothing is removed from your old app.

  1. Go back to your old app. The switching guide should still be open. If it is not, open it again from Settings .
  2. Under Bring your bookmarks, select Transfer bookmarks. After a moment, the iOS share sheet opens. This is the panel iOS uses to send a file to another app.
  3. Look for the row of app icons in the share sheet. People you might share with can appear above it, and a list of actions such as Save to Files appears below it.
  4. Select Lokimaps in the row of app icons. If you cannot see it, swipe left along the row, select More at the end, and choose Lokimaps from the list.
  5. Lokimaps opens and shows Import bookmarks, a list of everything in the file. If you have not finished setting up Lokimaps, complete setup first and the list appears afterwards.
  6. If you want the items in a particular folder, select Import into and choose it. Show imported items on map is on by default. Turn it off if you would rather show items on the map later.
  7. Select Import in the upper-right corner. The button shows how many items will be imported, for example Import 24. Nothing is added until you select it.
  8. Open Bookmarks in Lokimaps to see your saved places, routes, and tracks.

If you have no bookmarks, the switching guide tells you so and shows no transfer button. You can skip this step.

Offline map downloads and app settings are not transferred. Before your next trip, download the areas you need again in Lokimaps.

A thank-you gift: six months of PROA thank-you gift: six months of PRO

To thank you for using our apps, the switching guide includes a code for six months of Lokimaps PRO, free of charge. The gift is optional. You do not need it to switch, to transfer your bookmarks, or to keep using your included map.

PRO unlocks every built-in map and layer, including maps for more countries, as well as walking, cycling, and car routing, location-sharing groups, and custom maps and layers. See Lokimaps PRO for the full list.

  1. In your old app, open the switching guide and find A thank-you from us.
  2. Select Copy code. The button changes to Copied. The code is shown only in the app.
  3. Open Lokimaps and select Settings .
  4. Scroll down to About and select Redeem code. Apple's code redemption screen opens.
  5. Touch and hold the code field, select Paste, then follow Apple's steps.
  6. Before you confirm, check that Apple shows the six-month PRO offer. Read the terms shown, including what happens when the six months end.
  7. To check that PRO is active, open Settings and select Lokimaps PRO. If it has not updated yet, select Restore purchases.

Apple manages the subscription. To review or cancel it later, see Manage or cancel a subscription.

  1. Make sure Lokimaps is installed and up to date on the same iPhone or iPad as your old app.
  2. Open Lokimaps and complete setup if you have not already done so.
  3. Return to your old app and select Transfer bookmarks again. Swipe left along the row of app icons, select More, and look for Lokimaps in the list. More is at the end of the app icon row. It is not the same as Edit Actions in the list below.
  4. If Lokimaps is still missing, transfer through Files instead (see the next section).

The apps offered in the share sheet, and their order, depend on your device and the type of file you are sharing. Apple explains how to find more apps and rearrange them in its guide to customising sharing options.

  1. In your old app, select Transfer bookmarks.
  2. In the list of actions in the share sheet, select Save to Files. You may need to scroll down.
  3. Choose a place you will find again, such as On My iPhone or iCloud Drive, then select Save.
  4. Open Lokimaps and select Bookmarks .
  5. Select Actions , then Import GPX .
  6. Go to the place where you saved the file, and select the file ending in .gpx.
  7. Check the list, then select Import in the upper-right corner.

Some bookmarks seem to be missingSome bookmarks seem to be missing

  • The import was not confirmed. If you closed the Import bookmarks screen without selecting Import, nothing was added. Select Transfer bookmarks in your old app again.
  • They are inside folders. Your items keep their folders. If you chose a folder in Import into , look inside that folder in Bookmarks .
  • They were already imported. When you import again, Lokimaps skips matching items by default, so the Import button counts only new items. If everything is already in Lokimaps, there is nothing new to import.
  • Some details are not included. Empty folders, and routes or tracks with fewer than two points, are not transferred. Colours and other styling may differ.

Copy the code again from the switching guide in your old app, and paste it into Redeem code in Lokimaps. If Apple still shows an error, contact us and include Apple's exact message. You do not need PRO to finish switching.

Should I delete my old app?Should I delete my old app?

There is no need to delete it right away. Transferring bookmarks makes a copy, so everything stays in your old app. Keep it at least until you have checked your bookmarks in Lokimaps.

Can I transfer my bookmarks again later?Can I transfer my bookmarks again later?

Yes. Select Transfer bookmarks again whenever you like. Bookmarks you save in your old app after the first transfer are not copied automatically, but a new transfer brings them across. Items already in Lokimaps are skipped by default, so you do not get duplicates unless you choose Keep duplicates as copies.
